Volunteer Coaches

Mandatory for All Coaches

Freehold Township Parks and Recreation Commission takes the safety and well being of the participants of our programs very seriously. Our programs would not be able to run without the many volunteer coaches who generously give their time to the participants of our programs.

As of January 1, 2009 all-volunteer Coaches must be certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) or Rutgers Certification. Both certifications are designed to sensitize volunteer coaches to their responsibilities and hold them accountable to a strict code of conduct. The NYSCA training can be taken online on the National Alliance for Youth Sports Site. For information on Rutgers Certification or to obtain a replacement card go to the Youth Sports Research Council Site. You must provide Recreation with a copy of either the NYSCA or Rutgers Certification Card.

Mandatory Background Checks for All-Volunteer Coaches

In 2006, the Freehold Township Committee unanimously approved an ordinance requiring criminal history background checks on all personnel involved in youth-serving programs.

Any person involved with coaching or supervising children in a Freehold township sponsored or co-sponsored program, is required to submit to a Federal and State criminal background check. The New Jersey State Police has contracted with Sagem Morpho, Inc. to handle the fingerprinting process. Please contact the Recreation Office at 732-294-2190 to obtain the proper forms.
