Overview

This Board's responsibilities include the enforcement of all State Laws and Local Ordinances of the Township which relate to public health, nuisances and contagious diseases.

The Freehold Township Board of Health is an autonomous Board that has the legal authority to adopt public health policies and enforce regulations that promote and protect community health. The Board is comprised of volunteers who reside in Freehold Township that work together to establish strategic priorities for the Health Department and the community. Although the Board performs a variety of functions, they are ultimately responsible for ensuring legal authority, a policy base, adequate resources, collaboration and accountability for public health at the local level. Both national and state performance standards and the 10 Essential Public Health Services (PDF) guide the Board.

The duties and responsibilities of the Board of Health are outlined in a set of bylaws. As such, the Board is made up of 7 members and 2 alternate members who agree to meet on the second Thursday of every month. The meetings are open to the public, scheduled, and adopted by resolution at the reorganization meeting of the Board in January of every year. Ordinances that have been adopted by the Board to protect and promote public health are found in Part III of the Code of the Township of Freehold, New Jersey.
